I missed your comment from the other day. I am not a triathlete... yet. I need to work on swimming before attempting a race. I would however like to compete and get some experience in a pool. If anyone at the Box can swim well and is willing to give me some pointers as well as an open pool, that would be greatly appreciated.
For running, I was involved with the New York Road Runners speed workouts 2x per week on Tues and Thurs nights. I really built some great speed that carried over to long runs from this course. I have since cut back to only Tues nights which I sometimes go to and sometimes do not as I prefer Crossfitting much better! On a side note, I am running the Queens Half Marathon on Sunday and there are still open slots available.
Biking - I usually bike everywhwere I go. I have done a few longer rides, but they are usually to get somewhere and back. I am registering for a 100 mile ride in Manhattan for 3 weeks from now that should be a nice challenge. I have not biked over 40 miles at one moment.
We can chat on Thursday if you make it out to the box. Let me know if you decide to register for the Queens Half or the MS Ride.
Jim- I am proof that you don't /have/ to know how to swim to do a triathlon, it just works out a hell of a lot better. A friend of mine is also doing the Queens half, unfortunately, I am studying for a Scuba cert that day, so I have to miss it.
I am looking into some pool options, but they are, so far, all to expensive when combined with CF dues. My triathlete friend swims with the Red Tide, which includes coaching, but costs 15/day for drop in and 12/day if you buy 10 at a time. They swim at a few places around the city, I tried it out at John Jay. They are above my level though, so I need to get some remdial work in first.
In prep for the Urbanathlon, I am trying to integrate more interval work into the CF WoD, and will be trying out another CFE protocol tonight. Will see how it goes. If you do find a cheap place to swim, let me know.
great turnout tonight!! A lot of new elements grads and quite a few regulars! Thanks to everyone for being so patient-it was a difficult WOD to get through, and people did really well!!!
didn't have the time or energy to do the WOD tonight, so I did:
10 burpees
10 KB swings (16k)
10 double unders

CA - "Court Wizzle"...yeah, we may need to keep that.
Glad the mishap damage was slight (unless those glasses were necessary for...survival and such.)
OT is pissed at me over Monday's pull-ups. I'm back to squats/sit-ups/runs/pistols. :(
your friend swims with the red tide? whoa.
the rec center pools in the city aren't that bad.
excellent for me at 75$ a year.
