Workout

Brooklyn Park WOD is today. We know that everyone prefers a field trip to a lazy Rest Day. So everyone meet up at the Box before 7pm. At that time we will be making the trek over. Again this invitation goes to current members, anyone who's made it out to our Free Beginners classes and especially to any first-timers that want to check us out. The workout should be pretty basic, but really fun and will definitely make you sweat. Hope everyone makes it out. Last one to show up at the box has to carry the C2 Rower to McCarren Park.

Cliff notes version of Paleo:

Eat meat, veggies, fruits, nuts, and seeds... As much as you like. I would watch the amount of fruit, nuts, and seeds however because fruit can be high GI and nuts are pretty calorically dense.

I'm no paleo expert by any means, but here are some things that you can't eat:
grains/refined carbs, dairy, legumes, salt (apparently?)

That means I can no longer rely on Greek yogurt, hummus or peanut butter as snacks.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Well if you guys tried paleo strict for a month most of you would lose your minds. I mean you ladies get angry if the ice cream place is closed.

'kind of' strict implies eating paleo mon-fri and then maybe cheating a little on weekends.

If you wanna give the challenge a try. Download the shopping-food.doc from the Robb Wolf link and try to eat that for a month.

Yeah, I have almond butter to dip my celery and carrot sticks in, but there's no way I can buy almond butter and pass up the $3 jar of organic natural crunchy peanut butter on the shelf next to it.

I thought I read somewhere that Paleo is one of those diets that you can't cheat on or it all comes 'undone', so to speak. Anybody know if this is true?

I train part time at BB and I've been 95% Paleo for 3 months. The results are great. My energy is through the roof, my pr Squat and Dead lifts are up +25% and my body% is the lowest its been in a long time, probably single digits... Can't say enough good things about Paleo.

Hey Craig,

I get 95% of my calories from meat and fish plus the veggies and fruit on the approved list in the original Cordain book. I keep track of what I eat on nutritiondata.com Some days its still a challenge to keep my calories up... I aim for 3,200 per day. (5'10", 175, 49yrs)

At first it was difficult to cut out the grains and dairy, but by the third week I was seeing results and working in a cheat meal once per week.

There are two paleo books by Loren Cordain, an original called The Paleo Diet and a follow up called The Paleo Diet for Athletes. The focus of the second is on endurance athletes with little to no mention of those of us involved in strength training.

I'll bring my copy of the original with me to BB next time I come (th or fri 7pm?), if you haven't gotten one by then you can borrow mine.
