Park WOD is on for tomorrow, so far the weather looks favorable. Since it's gonna be a CrossFit HQ Rest Day, we expect to see everyone out there. Especially all the recent Beginner's Class attendees and any First timers. The plan is to meet at Black Box Brooklyn and head out to Mc Carren Park. I don't need to say that this will be fun but yeah, it will.

Hey Brooklyn:
I know Angie as a Wod, but what is the Angie challenge?

The Angie challenge is an extra-credit version of the 100-Day Pull-Up Challenge. Basically Day 1 you complete 1 pull-up, 1 push-up, 1 sit-up, 1 squat, Day 2 you complete 2 pull-ups, 2 push-ups, 2 sit-ups, 2 squats, ...etc until you get to Day 100, on which you do Angie.

I was hoping to make up the deads from yesterday, is someone going to have the box open while folks are at McCarren tomorrow?

Craig - of course that will depend on our coverage, but ideally we will try to have at least one trainer keeping the facility open while others are tearing it up out in the park. We will try to know for certain by tomorrow and announce accordingly.

How do you go about the Angie challenge if a wod has pushups or pullups etc. Are they deducted?

made up 21 reps for angie challenge

*yes you can deduct from whatever wod you just did that day.

No deductions.

All reps of the Angie Challenge are done in their entirety regardless of the WOD, warmup or whatever one did to avoid being chased down by dogs/zombies/zombie dogs that day.

So yeah, if the WOD happens to be Angie on Day 100...well that day is just going to suck.

hah or what moon said.
I for one don't like to count the WOD reps unless its really high reps. High reps being 50+ , so Fran doesn't count.

Deductions are absolutely allowed. In a similar spirit to the burpee challenge, if the day's WOD includes pullups or pushups or situps or squats, or you did a bunch of any of those things for warm up, cool down, escaping from wild animals, those CAN count toward the Angie challenge.

If you wish to not count them, of course that's your prerogative!

(By the way, if you think that including WOD reps is something only a pussy would do, let us chat about this again around about day 70 ;)

Booooo....

Announcing the Moon Purist Angie Challenge...:)

hehe - she said "pussy"

i'm with good sam on this one.

O.k.
i'm in on this one. i will start on 10/20. What will the buy in be that day.

Not sure if last one posted. What will the buy in be if I start on 10/20?

you want to buy in on day 14!?
that's 105 reps please.

I think disallowing deductions is redunkulous. Isn't the badassedness factor dwarfed by the corresponding retarditude level? If you miss day 56 and the WOD on day 57 is Cindy (or even Fran, for that matter), you would be smart to count all those reps.

From the official CF Santa Cruz Burpee Challenge rules:

"5. Any burpees you complete during your regular workout can count towards that day’s Challenge burpees, if you want them to."

Juan:
That seems a little rough as a buy in. I will do this on my own then and then if I make it past day 25 I will let ya"ll know. I'm not sure this is feasable unless there is a pullup bar around me at all times. How many are doing it over there?

"We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not only because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too." - President John F. Kennedy

CrossFit is about meeting challenges, no? Letting 3 rounds of the standard CF warmup carry one through the first month of this Angie Challenge does not seem to keep to the spirit of the challenge. Still, I respect the opinion of the organizer of the challenge and so I will just say that I am adjusting the challenge for myself. If I fail - and many good people gave up in the Burpee Challenge who did the "no deductions rule" - then at least I will have failed in reaching for a high goal - a goal that was set because it was hard.

[And on a practical note...come on - you get *all day* to do the exercises. With a little planning, one could knock out most of the reps throughout the day.]

Moon,

I will admit that I prefer committing to challenges that can be met, rather than setting myself up for failure, and that I'm more interested in doing a challenge that complements my training rather than hampers it.

In any case, I don't think the first few weeks matter much. It will be plenty hard enough when I have to do 80 chest to bar pull-ups on a rest day (I'm sticking to the OG pull-up challenge, the Angie challenge is just plain whack).

You guys have more comments today that we do over at crossfitnyc.com. I have mixed feelings on this... : )

P.S.: Yay CFBK t-shirts!

I find this challenge interesting, but how many people out there have enough in the tank after a brutal WOD I.E. Like todays WOD after 80 days? I"ll sleep on it.Maybe permanently.

Whack? Boooo, Ewen.
Sure, this challenge seems F'ing retarded, to the smart person. But I dunno, smart is a little too closely correlated with our need to find ways to make things easier. I'd rather take a heaping spoonful of retarditude then to accept failure before accepting a challenge.

ah, the eternal struggle.

yin vs. yang... good vs. evil... GI Joe vs. Cobra... Megatron vs. Optimus Prime... badassedness vs. retarditude.

today's WOD (cleans and GHDs) with 105 lbs cleans:

15:50

Sub 115lbs - 16:38

Sub 55lbs - 15:22

Subbed 75# and GH sit ups:
16:17

I probably missed this, but what time is the park wod?

Ewen - Reach > grasp, no?

rmfbarger - "The never ending struggle of badassedness vs. retarditude" Why do you drop this back-of-a-CrossFit-t-shirt slogan gem on us *after* we get the first set done??? :)

Jessica - I'm thinking we leave the gym at 7.

ewen deserves all the credit on that one.

sub 62lb

15:08

Did a variety of practice stuff today.

3 sets of
5 35# DB snatch/windmill/bent press
Apparently 35# is too wussy-ish of a weight, so I'll have to keep working on this.

3 sets of
10 one-arm push ups (5 per side), arm-out style

3 sets of
5 Jack LaLanne push ups
Nearly impossible for me.

5 sets of
3 plyometric HSPU, wall assisted

1 sets of
6 one-arm chin negatives (3 per side)
These were hardly negatives.

5 sets of
6 assisted one-arm chin/pull ups (3 per side), one arm on bar, the other on towel or rope
