Court:
five of us are waiting outside the gym in Brooklyn. No one's here.
We just spoke to Jeff. He's on his way and thinks he should be there by noon.
Noon is an hour after the gym was supposed to be open. I gave up and went home around 11:25. I don't have all day to wait.
Those of you who know me know I'm not one to bitch, but this is unacceptable. If the gym is not open or hours are changing, let us know ahead of time. Don't expect us to wait around all day hoping someone will eventually come.
Thanks Jeff for coming in so we could do Fran!
I'm with Paul pease let us know if the hours changed or if we are opening late. Jeff, thanks again for coming in and opening up.
Rx'd 5:11, first time with kipping pullups. next time sub 5
Fran scaled to 75#: 6:09.
Next time ill do it rxd
Rx'd 8:46
PR'd by over 5 minutes.
12:18 rx'd
5:43 rx'd. It should be noted that I didn't lie on my back after the workout. That's a sign of veakness and surrender....never lying on the back.
PR, Jason, Luke S
Sorry for what happened today. I'll do what I can to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Thanks to Megan and Luke S for alerting me and everyone else who was patient enough to wait for me to arrive.
Brooklyn Members,
Regarding the fiasco today:
It is hard to get much more unprofessional than failing to open the Box. We have no excuse, at this point only a partial explanation.
We have clear procedures involving the schedule: The instructor who is on the schedule has the ultimate responsibility for making sure he or she has a replacement when he or she is absent. In addition the instructor on the schedule is responsible for reminding his or her replacement, so that a commitment by someone to cover (or to find someone to cover) sometime in the future is not forgotten.
Max was the scheduled instructor. As of this moment, we do not know whether Max failed to find a replacement; whether Max failed to remind his replacement; or whether Max's replacement forgot and/or failed to show. When we find the answer, we will decide how to proceed.
For now, please accept our (Court's Josh's, and my) appologies. We recognize that this happening on the same day we are expanding the schedule in Manhattan gives exactly the opposite impression we want to convey. We recognize that a number of other things have been going wrong, particularly since Torch's departure, and I will address several of those issues in subsequent comments.
Regarding The New Location:
Having moved into several spaces, we (Court, Josh, and I) have grown accustomed to the endless number of things that can go wrong. So, we thought it would be wise not to announce a grand opening date unless and until we were certain to make that date.
As of last week, the plan was for us to get the keys by January 15, spend two weeks getting ready, and then open on February 1. About two weeks ago, we got approached by "L" Magazine. They were running a special fitness addition. Normally, we never advertise, but we thought maybe we'd make an exception. We had very little time to respond, so on the fly, we decided to put something about the opening of our new location.
We failed to consider fully that (1) we might not be able to finalize the deal; (2) we might run into delays; (3) we had previously been so concerned about (1) and (2) that we hadn't said anything to our members.
We managed to accomplish the worst of all alternatives by making a public announcement before we told our members. Sorry, our bad, particularly since we now anticipate that we may have at least a one month delay.
As of today, we do not have a final deal signed, so it seems that March 1 will be the earliest we will be able to open the new location. We will do a far better job of keeping you informed hereafter.
Torch put me through the following:
30 dumb bell burpee split cleans
4:04 1 20 pd dumb bell
Luke: Intrinsic to Finland and its people, sisu is a form of stoic courage and unwavering perseverance in the face of long odds and hard challenges. “I once read an article about it: when animals surrender they go lying on their back,” Salo explains. “From then on I decided I would never go lying on my back. It’s a sign of w...eakness and surrendering. I’m never lying on my back.” That’s sisu, and it defines Mikko Salo
I agree......on a side note were is the beef..

Raul: so far Mike K and Jim H(errold?) from NYC are down the with beef idea. If you guys want to get maybe another person or two and split a side of beef, I will be able to arrange that. I'm going to find out when the next slaughter is and the exact price. When you guys find the freezer space, I'll go up to the farm and pick a steer with a little fight in him.
Luke F. I am my 3 roommates might be interested in getting in on this. How much would it cost? About how much meat would we get assuming it is split between me, Mike K, Jim H, and Raul? Sounds kind of awesome!

The foregoing brief review may possibly make it's exasperation manifest. All of this short review careens shortly straight into pet peeves that have already zero to do with the posting, putting attention as a substitute on generalizations about adult females, backrounds, bicyclists, and then an ethnic background revealed through an adjective made use of like a noun. One particular coded hateful comment is contributed, followed straightaway by allegations of a “race card” being played.
Great post!
